Two raw ribeye steaks seasoned with salt on a rack

How to Cook British Wagyu Ribeye Steak

Start with the actual ribeye in the pack: its thickness and shape matter more to cooking than the word Wagyu. Dry the surface, sear every outside face and reduce the heat if the crust develops before the centre reaches the endpoint appropriate to your steak.

One-steak meal

  • 1 British Wagyu ribeye, nominal 250g
  • 200g potatoes, cut into small pieces
  • 100g green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tsp neutral cooking oil
  • Salt and pepper, added to taste

Prepare the sides and steak

  1. Follow the pack's handling instructions. If frozen, thaw fully in the fridge. Keep raw beef contained and separate from the prepared vegetables.
  2. Boil or steam the potatoes until tender and cook the beans to your preference. Have the sides ready before beginning the steak.
  3. Pat the ribeye dry. Use a pan large enough for it to sit flat and suitable for searing. Apply the measured oil sparingly if needed for the surface.
  4. Sear both broad faces, then use tongs to expose the outer edges to heat. Watch thinner edges and thicker areas separately; do not leave a pale outer seam unseared simply because the main face is brown.
  5. If the outside darkens too quickly, reduce the heat and finish more gently. Use a clean food thermometer where needed to assess the centre and follow the label's cooking requirement.
  6. Rest the cooked steak briefly on a clean plate, then slice across the visible fibres. Divide with the sides and season to taste. Serve promptly.

The FSA permits intact whole beef to have a pink centre when its outside is thoroughly seared. That distinction does not apply to burgers, rolled or altered meat. No fixed minutes-per-side promise is made for an unmeasured steak.

Read the result

Pale and wet: dry the next surface and avoid crowding. Blackening outside: lower the heat rather than chasing a darker crust. Uneven bite: inspect the different sections and slice direction; the cut can contain more than one muscle and seam.

The quantity above is a meal plan, not a measured cooked yield. Cooked weight changes with the actual steak and method. For purchasing and delivery checks, see the Wagyu buying checklist. Follow FSA storage guidance for any cooked leftovers.
