Japanese Olive Wagyu vs Olive-Fed British Wagyu

“Olive Wagyu” in Japan and “olive-fed British Wagyu” are not the same certified product. Japan’s Kagawa Olive Beef is a defined regional programme using olive-derived feed under the Sanuki Wagyu promotion association’s rules. A British producer may also describe an olive-containing feeding programme, but that does not make its beef Kagawa Olive Beef or transfer Japanese certification to a UK pack.

What is the Japanese programme?

The Olive-fed Wagyu Promotion Association describes cattle produced in Kagawa Prefecture and reared on olive feed under its specified programme. It shows an Olive Beef certificate for qualifying meat. Kagawa Prefecture explains that the feed uses dried fruit remaining after olive-oil pressing. The exact feed and certification rules belong to that Japanese programme; “olive” in a marketing phrase is not enough to establish eligibility.

What is a British olive-fed claim?

Freedown Hills describes an olive-fed British Wagyu programme on its own website. That is the producer’s statement about its cattle, not a Japanese regional designation. It is also not proof that every British Wagyu steak in a retailer’s catalogue came from Freedown Hills or received olives. For a specific pack, ask the retailer to connect the current batch to the producer and its feeding records.

Compare the facts, not the adjective

Neither programme guarantees a particular flavour, nutrition value or preferred result for every diner. A meaningful taste comparison would use matched products and a recorded method. No such test is claimed here.

Retail availability
