Cook Wagyu Denver steak according to the thickness of each piece, then slice across its visible grain. A heavy pan or grill can colour the exterior without turning a small shoulder cut into a long-cooked joint. A fixed number of minutes is not reliable for every Denver steak.
The Denver product illustrated here is British Wagyu from the chuck underblade, described as BMS 6–7. It is not Japanese A5. This page is a cooking reference, not a current Denver stock offer. The card below is a different cut: Japanese A5 Wagyu Sirloin, 200g, for readers choosing an available steak alternative.
Check whether the steak is frozen, its use-by information and whether the pack contains several pieces. The Denver product description allows natural variation in piece count. Equal weight does not mean equal thickness, so prepare to remove smaller pieces earlier.
Pat the surface dry, heat a heavy pan and cook without crowding. Turn the pieces so their exterior is properly cooked; adjust the heat if the surface is darkening before the centre reaches your intended doneness. Do not leave the pan unattended while fat renders.
The Food Standards Agency's cooking guidance distinguishes intact whole beef cuts from burgers and other non-intact meat. Properly cooking the outside can allow an intact steak to remain pink inside. Do not extend that approach to minced, injected, mechanically tenderised or rolled meat; those require a suitable thorough-cooking method. BMS does not establish food safety.
The grain is the direction of the long muscle fibres. Turn the cooked steak so your knife crosses those lines, rather than following them. Make slices that are comfortable to eat; if a piece has a different fibre direction, turn it separately.
One long slice along the grain leaves long fibres in each bite. Cutting across them shortens those fibres. This is a useful preparation choice for Denver and does not require a claim that the steak has been specially tenderised.
Use the delivered raw weight to plan portions. An approximately 300g pack can provide two approximately 150g raw allocations with potatoes and vegetables, or three approximately 100g tasting allocations. These are menu examples before cooking loss, not exact cooked yields.
| Meal | Suggested accompaniments |
|---|---|
| Shared steak plate | Roast potatoes, mushrooms and a small dish of chimichurri. |
| Rice bowl | Plain rice, cooked greens and a little pickle. |
| Warm steak salad | Leaves dressed separately, with the sliced steak added just before serving. |
It is an alternative steak purchase, not the same muscle, origin or marbling description. Use the sirloin steak cooking guide if that is the product you select. For a different Denver serving idea, see Denver steak with miso-roasted kohlrabi.
No. A marbling description is not a complete Japanese yield-and-quality grade. See the A5 and BMS explanation.
Only if the pan has enough space. Check each piece separately; different thicknesses can finish at different times.
Select the sirloin option in the card and confirm the basket quantity. For UK and London orders, check the gourmet delivery policy: eligible Monday-morning to Thursday-morning orders take 1–3 business days, with later-week orders dispatched the following Monday.
