Kagoshima and Miyazaki are distinct Japanese beef-producing prefectures with separate regional designations. Neither name tells you the exact marbling score, cut or pack size of a retail offer. Compare those details before deciding which product fits your dinner.
The photograph and cards here show products listed as produced in Kagoshima. They are not Miyazaki beef or evidence of a head-to-head tasting. For background on the region featured in Beleaev's current range, see our Kagoshima Wagyu guide.
MAFF registers Kagoshima Kuroushi and KAGOSHIMA WAGYU with Kagoshima Prefecture as the production area. Its separate Miyazaki entry includes Miyazaki Gyu, Miyazaki Wagyu and Miyazaki Beef, with Miyazaki Prefecture as the production area.
The ministry describes regional work on breeding and production management in both entries. Those histories explain the programmes' backgrounds. They do not establish that a particular retailer's pack qualifies, nor demonstrate which region you will prefer.
Start with the same cut and format. A whole sirloin and a portioned ribeye solve different cooking problems. Their total prices cannot isolate the effect of the prefecture, even if both are A5.
| Keep comparable | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Cut | Fillet, ribeye and sirloin have different structures |
| Selected raw weight | A larger pack changes the total spend |
| Stated grade and BMS | A region name does not supply either |
| Thickness and preparation | They affect cooking and portioning |
| Fresh or frozen format | They change storage and thawing plans |
If one field is missing, ask for it or acknowledge the gap. Do not invent a BMS score for a product simply to complete the comparison. Our UK price guide explains how raw weight changes the arithmetic.
Reputation may give you a reason to explore an origin, but it should not replace the actual offer. A regional award or general description is not a test result for every farm, carcass or steak.
For a dinner comparison, choose matched cuts and record which you enjoyed. Keep the conclusion narrow: you preferred those particular samples, cooked that way. There is no need to turn a useful personal observation into a claim that one whole prefecture is sweeter, softer or better.
The Japanese A5 Wagyu Ribeye, 200g, is a frozen portion format for a smaller meal. The fresh Japanese A5 sirloin, BMS 10–12, approximately 3kg, is a whole piece for planned portioning or a larger centrepiece.
Both listings state Kagoshima origin. This article does not add a separate GI-certification claim to those products. Choose the small format if you want a focused first tasting; choose the whole piece only when you have a suitable storage and preparation plan.
For the larger option, use the whole-sirloin guide. For a compact meal, the ribeye guide is the more relevant next step.
Do not infer grade from the prefecture. Read the grade stated for the product you are considering.
No. They are different prefectures with separate regional registrations.
No. The cards identify Kagoshima products. They must not be treated as Miyazaki offers.
