When choosing a Japanese Wagyu restaurant meal in London, check the named origin, cut, grade, serving weight and cooking style before comparing the price. “Wagyu” alone does not tell you whether a dish is Japanese beef, which muscle it uses or how much beef is included.
This is a menu-reading and booking checklist, not a ranked restaurant list. Beleaev is the retailer behind this guide; we do not claim to have visited, reviewed or verified today's menu at a London restaurant. The home-cooking option later in the article is separate from any restaurant booking.
A useful menu lets you understand the specific dish without guessing from the word “premium”. If a key detail is missing, ask the restaurant before booking, especially when Wagyu is the reason for the occasion.
| Menu detail | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Origin | Is this Japanese Wagyu? Is a prefecture or producer stated for this serving? |
| Cut and preparation | Is it ribeye, sirloin, fillet, slices or minced beef? |
| Grade | What grade is claimed, and does it refer to the beef being served? |
| Portion | How much beef is included? Is the quoted weight raw or cooked? |
| Service style | Is it a chef-cooked course, table grill or hot pot? |
| Total meal | Are sides included, and what other charges or minimum orders apply? |
A5 is a Japanese yield-and-quality grade; Kobe is a qualifying regional designation. They are not interchangeable. The JETRO Wagyu overview explains Japanese Wagyu, while the Kobe Beef Association sets out the Kobe designation.
If Kobe is advertised, ask what verifies that description for the product being served. An impressive generic certificate elsewhere on a website does not answer which beef is in your meal. Our Kobe and Wagyu comparison explains the distinction in more detail.
Compare the same kind of experience first. A small tasting course, a steak main and a table-cooked platter include different amounts of beef and different service. Restaurant prices also cover preparation, staff, premises and the occasion; they are not directly comparable with a raw retail pack.
Ask whether the listed weight describes just the beef or a mixed platter. Check whether the price is per person, per portion or per unit of weight. These simple questions are more useful than treating the lowest headline number as the best deal.
Confirm current availability, allergies, the cooking approach and the cancellation terms directly with the restaurant. Menus change, so an older photograph or article is not proof a specific cut will be available on your date.
Choose home cooking when you want control over the cut, raw pack quantity and accompaniments, and are comfortable preparing the meal. It is a different experience from a restaurant, not a claim that one is always cheaper or better.
The card below is Japanese A5 Wagyu Ribeye for home cooking, not Kobe beef or a restaurant reservation. Select the required weight and follow the ribeye cooking guide.
