Caviar Price Guide UK: What Does Caviar Actually Cost in 2026?

Beleaev Signature Tasting Set with four 30g tins of Beluga, Oscietra, Baeri and salmon roe for comparing caviar types and prices

Quick answer: compare caviar on three separate numbers: the price of the tin, the price per gram and the amount you will actually serve. A larger tin may reduce packaging and make service easier, but it does not automatically produce the lowest checkout total or the lowest price per gram. The calculation must use the exact product and pack size you intend to buy.

How should you compare caviar prices?

Start with an equal weight. Comparing a 20g sampling tin with a 50g sharing tin tells you which purchase costs less, but not which caviar costs less per gram. Use these four calculations:

  1. Cost per gram = tin price ÷ net grams.
  2. Grams required = guests × planned grams per guest.
  3. Allocated ingredient cost = grams served × cost per gram of the selected tin.
  4. Shopping bill = the prices of all whole tins placed in the basket.

The last two figures are often different. If a 125g tin costs £157 and you serve 60g, the whole-tin shopping bill is £157. The 60g consumed is worth £75.36 at £1.256 per gram, while 65g remains. That remainder is not a saving unless it has a planned use and can be handled according to the product label.

What do dated Beleaev base prices work out to per gram?

The table below uses the GBP variant base prices in the linked Beleaev catalogue on 12 October 2026. It is a dated comparison, not a permanent price promise. Recheck the selected pack on the product page before ordering. Automatic discounts, subscription prices, delivery, accessories and other ingredients are excluded. The selected one-time offer may be lower. These tables compare base-price subtotals, not final checkout charges; check tax treatment and delivery in the basket.

What do the 1kg formats cost?

These are separate bulk-format examples from the same 12 October catalogue check. Choose them only when the planned service and the received label support using the quantity; a lower unit price does not make unwanted remainder useful.

Product 1kg base price Price per gram
Royal Baeri Caviar £1220.00 £1.22/g
Oscietra Royal Caviar £1470.00 £1.47/g
Imperial Gold Special Reserve £1710.00 £1.71/g
Beluga Reserve Caviar £3570.00 £3.57/g
Almaz Diamond Caviar £5460.00 £5.46/g
Beluga XXL Special Reserve £4368.00 £4.37/g
Golden Oscietra Special Reserve £1575.00 £1.57/g

Does buying a larger tin always reduce the unit price?

No. The current pack structure has several flat or slightly irregular steps. Royal Baeri, for example, was £1.23 per gram in a 30g tin, then approximately £1.26 per gram in the 50g, 125g and 250g formats. Oscietra Royal fell from £1.90 per gram at 20g to £1.60 at 30g and £1.56 from 50g upwards. Beluga Reserve fell from £4.00 per gram at 20g to £3.60 from 50g through 250g.

This is why “buy the biggest tin” is not a reliable rule. The right format is the one that covers the planned service with an acceptable remainder, at a checkout total you are comfortable with. Fewer tins may also be easier to present at the table, even when the arithmetic difference is small.

What would caviar cost for six guests?

Assume a 10g tasting portion per guest. This is a planning assumption for the example, not a universal serving standard. Six guests require 60g in total. Buying two 30g tins covers the plan exactly at the prices checked on 12 October 2026:

Caviar Packs bought Base-price tin subtotal Ingredient cost per guest
Royal Baeri 2 × 30g £74 £12.33
Oscietra Royal 2 × 30g £96 £16.00
Beluga Reserve 2 × 30g £220 £36.67

If you bought a 125g tin instead and still served only 60g, the allocated ingredient values would be £75.36 for Baeri, £93.60 for Oscietra Royal and £216 for Beluga Reserve. The base-price tin subtotals would be the full 125g tin prices: £157, £195 and £450 respectively. The difference is the value held in the unserved 65g.

Use the separate caviar portion planner to choose a serving assumption before doing this calculation. Otherwise a precise-looking cost can still be based on the wrong quantity.

When can several smaller tins cost less than one larger tin?

Consider six guests at 20g each, requiring 120g. A single 125g tin is convenient and leaves 5g. At the checked prices, however, two 50g tins plus one 20g tin produced a slightly lower base-price tin subtotal for all three products:

Caviar One 125g tin Two 50g + one 20g Difference
Royal Baeri £157; 5g remainder £153; no remainder £4 less
Oscietra Royal £195; 5g remainder £194; no remainder £1 less
Beluga Reserve £450; 5g remainder £440; no remainder £10 less

The smaller-tin route uses three containers rather than one. That may matter for serving, refrigeration space and presentation. It may also be unavailable when you order. Treat the table as a worked method and recheck both the price and selectable pack before committing.

Which caviar should you choose for the budget?

Choose the service first, then the product. For a first comparison, equal 20g tins make the tasting fair and keep the initial quantity controlled. For a six-person tasting, two 30g tins cover a 10g-per-person plan exactly. For a larger shared course, compare the exact pack combinations instead of assuming the 125g or 250g format wins automatically.

The product decision should not be reduced to “entry-priced, mid-tier and higher-priced”. The three linked caviars are different products with different catalogue descriptions. Price tells you the purchasing commitment; it does not prove which flavour you or your guests will prefer. If you want to compare styles, keep the serving weight, accompaniments and temperature consistent.

What should be included in your final shopping calculation?

  • The exact caviar product and selected pack size.
  • The planned grams per guest and total grams required.
  • The number of whole tins needed and any calculated remainder.
  • The current one-time or subscription price you actually selected.
  • Any accompaniments or serving accessories you intend to buy.
  • Delivery shown at checkout, kept separate from the caviar price comparison.

A useful caviar budget therefore has two answers. The first is the value of what will be eaten. The second is the amount charged for the complete packs in the basket. Calculate both, then choose the format that suits the occasion rather than relying on a broad market range.

Frequently asked questions

How much does caviar cost in the UK?

In Beleaev's catalogue checked on 12 October 2026, available 20g sampling tins ranged from £27 for Royal Baeri to £130 for Almaz Diamond. This is a named-retailer snapshot, rather than a survey of the whole UK market. Compare the exact pack and final selected checkout.

Does a larger tin always cost less per gram?

No. In the checked Royal Baeri formats, £37 for 30g is about £1.23 per gram, while £63 for 50g is £1.26 per gram. The 1kg format was £1.22 per gram. Compare both quantity fit and the current unit price.

Does a higher price prove that the caviar tastes better?

No. The linked products differ in species, selection, pearl character and catalogue profile. Price states the purchasing commitment; it does not establish an independent blind-tasting preference.

How much should I budget per person?

Choose a grams-per-guest assumption for the serving role, then calculate the whole tins required. Six guests at 10g need 60g; two 30g Royal Baeri tins have a £74 base subtotal at this check, before offers, delivery or extras.

Catalogue and arithmetic checked on 12 October 2026. Prices are base inputs before discounts, subscription offers, delivery and extras; confirm the selected final basket. Product descriptions are merchant-attributed, and the received pack supplies the batch-specific identity, ingredients and storage instructions.
