British Wagyu Price Guide: Pack Cost and Cost per Kilo

Compare British Wagyu by the cut, the actual pack weight and the total amount payable. A lower price per kilogram can still mean a larger bill if the pack is bigger than you need. A calculated portion cost is useful for planning, but it is not the same as the price of a purchasable pack.

Calculate a comparable unit price

Divide the pack price in pounds by its weight in kilograms. For an illustrative calculation only, a 250g pack at £30 would cost £120/kg (£30 ÷ 0.25kg). A 400g pack at £44 would cost £110/kg (£44 ÷ 0.4kg). These are made-up figures for learning the arithmetic; they are not Beleaev prices or an offer for either pack.

The larger example has the lower unit price, yet asks you to spend £14 more and buy 150g more raw beef. If the extra meat does not fit the meal or safe storage plan, the lower unit price may not help you.

Compare the final bill, not just the headline price

  • Choose a format: compare one steak with one steak, or explain when a two-steak pack changes the quantity.
  • Check the supplied weight: an approximate listing weight may differ from the delivered pack. Recalculate if the actual weight or charged amount changes.
  • Check basket terms: add the current pack price, any discount actually applied, delivery for your postcode and sides bought separately. Use the checkout breakdown for tax rather than adding it twice.
  • Consider usable food: trimming, cooked loss and uneaten portions mean cost per raw kilogram is not cost per served kilogram. Do not invent a fixed yield.

How much does a portion cost?

If a 400g steak is divided into two equal raw allocations, each is nominally 200g. At a hypothetical £44 pack price, each allocation accounts for £22 of the steak, before sides or delivery. You would still purchase the whole £44 pack. Cooking changes weight, so the calculation does not promise two 200g cooked servings.

For a meal for two, compare one shared steak with two individual portions using the total raw weight as well as the bill. An individual steak may be easier to portion; a larger piece may suit sharing. Neither is automatically better value.

What price cannot prove

A high or low price does not establish breed percentage, a named farm, feed, provenance or a tasting result. Check those claims separately against the current product information and received label. If a product's supporting information is unavailable, leave that claim out of the buying decision.

Use the delivery and storage checklist to plan the order and current shipping policy for the service available to your postcode. Calculate again from live basket figures before paying.
